Drenched in Light is the name of a short story written by Zora Neale Hurston, whose life and work has meant a lot to me over the years. The name Zora means dawn. It is the name we gave to one of our twin daughters. Our other daughter is named Suhaila, a name of Swahili origin that means gentle spirit, but also star. Day and night, my world is drenched in light, a reminder that the darkness has no choice but to retreat when light shows up.
